Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Members pay a monthly fee, which includes:

STORAGE

  • One dedicated bike parking space, wide enough for a large adventure bike with panniers.

  • Each space has a 13A plug socket for charging your battery, a shelf for helmets or spares, and hooks/hanging space for jackets, trousers, etc.

WORKSHOP

  • Access to a well-lit, heated, comfortable space to service, maintain, and fix your bike.

  • Community tool wall updated weekly with most tools needed for common jobs.

  • Amenities include electricity, running water, coffee machine, and toilets — everything you need to happily work away all day.

COMMUNITY

  • Join the group WhatsApp to chat, share tips, and stay up-to-date.

  • Weekly workshop evenings to learn, practice, and improve your skills.

  • Regular rides during the summer season to explore new routes, discover hidden spots, and ride together.

What are the opening hours & how do I get in?

  • Members gain access using their phone via a simple app. Our opening hours are generous, but we do have neighbours, so we keep to sociable times. We’re not set up for delivery drivers or commuters needing very early or late access — we need to keep the neighbours happy!

  • The building is professionally secured with monitored CCTV coverage and a fully integrated alarm system.

What if I own more than one bike?

  • You’re welcome to work on any number of bikes in the workshop, but you can only store one in the unit at a time unless prior arrangements are made.

  • Many of our members have more than one bike, so we have some double spaces, or members rotate bikes as and when they need work done.

  • Regarding spaces: we are currently full, but you can be added to the waiting list.

What if my bike is a non-runner / work in progress?

  • Totally fine! We have lots of projects on the go at various stages, including some amazing old bikes.

What if I don’t have a bike yet?

  • You can still join! Membership options include WhatsApp access, invites to workshops, work weekends, and social events while you prepare to take a space.

Do you offer a service to work on bikes, repair bikes, MOT bikes etc?

  • No. We don’t have any mechanic (or any staff at all), and as a result we can’t offer any service to the public.

What about insurance?

  • You must insure your own bike — simply notify your insurance company of the address.

  • The building is brick-built with a roller shutter door, bollard, alarm, and CCTV inside and out.

  • Ground anchors are fitted; additional locks are welcome.

Do you rent short-term spaces for visitors/tourists?

  • We have limited short-term spaces. Contact us to discuss bookings.

Why did you start Bike Park Leith?

  • I live in Leith and didn’t have a garage. Storing my bike at work meant I rode less and had nowhere convenient to work on it.

  • Bike Park Leith was created as a safe, dry place close to home to store, maintain, and service bikes, and meet other riders.

What tools do you have?

  • We have a great selection of tools built up over the years, and anything we need, we buy when the funds allow.

Do you have a phone number?

  • No. We only communicate by email as we are run by volunteers. When we did have a phone, 99% of the calls were nuisance calls or people looking to get punctures fixed. We aim to respond to all emails within 24 - 48 hours.

  • If your enquiry is time sensive - include your phone number in the email and we will call you on.

How long is the waiting list?

There isn’t usually many people on the waiting list but we also don’t know when someone is likely to move out - so it’s hard to gauge how long it could be before a space comes up.

  • Sometimes we go 6 months without anyone leaving, sometime we can have 2 or 3 spaces become available in the same month (usually when members buy a home with a garage or move away)

  • We encourage potential members to get on the waiting list and come by to take a look around (by appointment only)

What are your opening hours / Can I pop by for a look around?

Please don’t pop by without an appointment. We don’t have any staff and we don’t like when members are coming in to get there bikes and someone we don’t know is waiting in the car-park and wants a tour / asks about a space.

As a community run company with no paid staff / only volunteers with limited availability please respect the rules and pop us an email and we’ll be happy to organise a time that suits us both for a nice walk around the space
